ASME B16.9 Elbow

15 Nov.,2023

ASME B16.9 Elbow is a type of pipe fittings that is used to connect two pipes together to change the direction of the pipe line. The ASME B16.9 standard specifies flanges of ½ inches to 48 inches in diameter. There are different material grades used to manufacture the fittings of this standard. The Carbon Steel 45 degree elbow is made up of carbon steel and has a 45 degree angle. The SS 90 Degree Elbow has a 90 degree angle.

ASME B16.9 Elbow

The different angles of the elbows are useful in getting the desired change of direction. There are different types in the shape of the elbow as well. The 45 Deg Elbow Short Radius has a short radius so the change of direction happens quickly whereas the 90 degree long radius elbow takes more distance to complete the alteration indirection. There are different radiuses of fittings depending on diameter of the pipes.

The elbows can be of different grades of material as well as different pressure ratings. The sch 80 45 degree elbow belongs to the schedule 80 which is a higher pressure grade. The schedule 40 90 degree elbow is a mild pressure grade. There are elbows of schedule 10 through XXS in this standard. The schedules correspond to the different wall thicknesses in relation to the diameters.

ASME B16.9 Elbow is Divided in Further Groups

These Elbows are partitioned into 2 sets which tells the distance over which they change the directions, the center line of one end to the opposite face. This is known as the "center-to-face" distance and is similar to the radius over which the elbow is bent.
