Best floor for table tennis?

I am thinking to renovate my basement for table tennis. Don't know what kind of floor is best. I bought some sports mate that smells like tires. Didn't like it. I am think ITTF official floors, which may be too expensive.  or just use wood floor. Anyone has a better idea? Thanks in advance.

the red rubber flooring is by far the best.  wood is your 2nd best option but RUBBER!

I've always wondered if the official flooring is commercially available and what it's called. Also if maybe there would be a way to make it yourself, any ideas for materials?

TT does not bounce away on rubber.

My idea of the best balance of cost and performance is a 2x4 and plywood floor which you can paint and surface any way you want. materials are readily available, can be assembled with some basic knowledge and basic wood working tools (nothing exotic), looks good and lasts.

I saw JeffATTC's club install one in their new facility. Loked great and played great. I saw my last club here in Korea do a similar floor to expand their club to 7 tables. (Used sheets of joined 2x8 inch sections, instead of whole smooth plywood sheets)

 

Carpet is the CHEAPEST and I think the WORST surface to use. You have to hop around to do everything - kills you when you try to slide feet.

What is the name of that material in weight rooms? you assemble squares together as in a puzzle... when you drop a dumbbell it is so well amortized and bounces a bit. A friend put that in his basement ping pong area and the only problem is the ball does not bounce so well; sometimes you have to work more to get the ball as you can't rely on a clear bounce off the floor to pick it up. For the knees it's the best though not counting that the grip is absolutely fantastic no matter the quality of the shoes you use.I highly recommend that type of material for training at home. i played a tournement at la villette and it is a pleassure to play there.

 

i think stag does also a floor product like that.

gerflor and taraflex are the best.
