How do you store knives so that your investment will last? We explain how best to store your knives and other cutting equipment in your kit.

Looking after your knives also means storing them carefully and safely, especially when at home if there are small children around.

Storing your knives can be done in a few different ways:

Many chefs choose to keep their knives and sharp equipment in a pouch or roll which can be carried with them and ensuring that their knives are safe.

Some kitchens keep them in a block on the kitchen counter or bench.

A toolbox can be used to store kitchen smalls and knives.

A magnetic strip can put up on the wall.

Or in a drawer for knives.

Cutting Equipment can be stored in a storeroom for easy access: Ensure blades are secure in original safe storage and not lying loose especially at home where a small child can injure themselves.

How do you (or are you going to) store your knives and small cutting equipment?

Be honest! Somewhere you have a tool drawer bursting with a combination of screwdrivers, nail sets, tape rolls, utility knives, scissors, scrapers, measuring tapes, files and knives. And often you have to dump everything out to find one tool.

One solution: Fit a large cutlery tray (about $3 at Walmart or Target) in the drawer to organize the tools so you can see and grab the one you want in a second. The tray is easy to lift out and carry to a job, and if you use a metal mesh tray, dust can’t build up between the tools.
