Rotavirus Rapid Test Background Information
Rotaviruses are the most common cause of pediatric gastroenteritis (otherwise known as stomach flu despite no relation to influenza virus) and diarrhea. There are five species of rotavirus, known as, A, B, C, D, and E. Rotavirus A accounts for over 90% of infection in humans. All five species cause disease in animals. Worldwide over 500,000 children under the age of 5 die from rotavirus infection and over 2,000,000 become severely ill each year, mostly in developing countries. Rotavirus accounts for up to 50% of hospitalization in infants and children with severe diarrhea. This virus is transmitted by the fecal-oral route.

Rotavirus Rapid Test Principle
Rotavirus Rapid Test is a sandwich solid phase immunochromatographic assay. To perform the Rotavirus rapid test, an aliquot of diluted stool sample is added to the sample well of the Rotavirus rapid test cassette. The sample on the Rotavirus Rapid Test flows through a label pad containing rotavirus antibody coupled to red-colored colloidal gold. If the sample on the Rotavirus rapid test contains rotavirus antigens, the antigen will bind to the antibody coated on the colloidal gold particles to form antigen-antibody-gold complexes. For additional details please refer to the instructions for use.
