Shaanxi Produces Over 180 Million Tonnes of Coal in Q1, Making Up 15.4% of National Output

Shaanxi Province produced 184.53 million tonnes of coal in the first quarter of 2025, accounting for 15.4% of China’s total coal production, according to the Shaanxi Coal Industry Association. The output represents a year-on-year increase of 6.7 million tonnes, or 3.8%.

Shaanxi Province produced 184.53 million tonnes of coal in the first quarter of 2025, accounting for 15.4% of China’s total coal production, according to the Shaanxi Coal Industry Association. The output represents a year-on-year increase of 6.7 million tonnes, or 3.8%.

In March alone, the province produced 61.52 million tonnes of coal and sold 59.86 million tonnes. From January through March, total coal sales reached 158.24 million tonnes, up 2.76 million tonnes—or 1.77%—from the same period last year. As of the end of March, coal inventories stood at 2.16 million tonnes.

The average coal price in Shaanxi rose to RMB 515 per tonne by the end of March, reflecting a month-on-month increase of RMB 10, or 2.0%. Compared with the same time last year, however, prices were down RMB 148 per tonne, a year-on-year drop of 22.3%.
