A Guide for How to Choose The Best Earrings For Your Face Shape by Earth Song Jewelry

Choosing earrings that match your face shape can help make any style look more stylish on you!

This Guide is about choosing the shape of the earring’s design to complement your face shape - not the stone color for gemstone or natural stone jewelry.

What Shape Of Face Do I Have?

Figuring out your face shape can be tricky, especially if you aren’t used to thinking about face shape when you’re choosing your jewelry. Some shapes, like square and rectangle faces, are very similar in shape and only slightly different in proportion. Here are the key things to determine your face's shape.

Look in a mirror, and pull back your hair if it hides part of your face. If your cheekbones, jaw, and forehead are all about the same width, you probably have a square or rectangular face.

If your cheekbones are a little wider than your forehead and chin, you may have a diamond face. If your cheekbones and forehead are wider than your chin, you probably have a heart-shaped face, especially if your hair also forms a widow’s peak on your forehead.

Round faces are the widest at the cheekbone and have gentle curves toward your slightly narrower forehead and chin, usually with a less defined jawline.

Oval faces are slightly longer than round faces but with the same general structure. Similarly, rectangular faces are the same shape as square faces but slightly longer.

Lastly, an inverted triangle face is when the forehead is the widest feature on your face, with slightly narrowed cheekbones and a much narrower jawline.

Earrings For Square Faces

The best earrings for square faces are earrings that offer some roundness and create more of a curve in your features. Hoops and looping earrings will complement your features well.

But don’t feel limited to plain metal Hoop designs. Dangling Hoops like my Emerald Loops earrings give you color and style as well as shape. Or, for even more curves, my Curves style earrings offer great dimensions for square faces! Hoops come in many styles besides the classic round metal hoop - check out my variety of interesting Hoop earrings.

Earrings For Oval Faces

People with Oval faces can select from almost any earring style and make it look good. Try to build some variety into your earring collection, and don’t forget to add at least one pair of birthstone earrings!

Earrings For Diamond Faces

Diamond faces often benefit from longer earrings that help show off the length of your neck and add some balance by emphasizing your jawline as well as your prized cheekbones.

Straight designs are also a good idea, like my Rhodochrosite Hammered Silver Sticks, which are part of my Sticks & Stones Collection.

Earrings For Heart-Shaped Faces

Heart-shaped faces have larger foreheads and narrower jaws, so they benefit from earrings that bring a little more weight to their jawline. Teardrop-shaped earrings and earrings that are wider at the bottom than the top are a good fit.

Teardrop spiral earrings offer a combination of unique handmade jewelry design with a flattering shape for Heart-Shaped faces.

Earrings For Round Faces

Round faces are relatively versatile, like oval faces, but benefit from earrings that elongate and slim the face slightly. Longer earrings, dangling earrings, and teardrop earrings are all good options for this face shape.

Earrings like my long Spirals & Jasper earrings or my Chips of Ice earrings would both be flattering for round face shapes.

Earrings For Inverted-Triangle Faces

Inverted Triangle faces are similar to heart-shaped faces, but they aren’t as wide through the cheekbones and are often narrower through the chin as well. That means the most complementary earrings are ones that give more width and power to your jawline.

Chandelier and teardrop earrings are both excellent for this.

My Holding Earth earrings are a fun and flattering style suitable for most occasions.

Common Questions About Matching Earrings To Your Face Shape

Earrings are one of the ultimate forms of self-expression. They can transform an outfit, drawing attention to your face and hair, and there are earrings for almost any occasion.

The trick is figuring out how to find the best earrings for your look.

Matching earrings to your face shape is only one way of finding a great pair of earrings. If you see something you love, wear it! But, if you do want to match your earring collection to your face shape, here are a few more tips to help you do it.

How Do You Know If An Earring Suits You?

There are a lot of factors you need to consider when you’re deciding if an earring suits you. For instance, warm metal colors, like brass, copper, or gold, tend to look best paired with warm skin tones, but if you have cool skin, silver might better complement your natural color.

You should also consider the color of the stones (are they your favorite color, or do they bring out the color of your eyes?) and the shape.

At the end of the day, though, the earrings that will suit you best are the earrings that make you feel best. The style, shape, and even color of your earrings don’t matter nearly as much as how those earrings make you feel.

Do Hoops Suit Every Face Shape?

Hoops and studs are two earring types that flatter almost everyone and are almost always in fashion.

If you want something that stands out from the crowd a little more, consider getting handmade hoops in a less traditional shape. Try open Hoops - such as my Curves Collection of earrings - a novel take on a classic hoop will always be an attention-getter.

A Quick Guide To Earrings and Face Shapes

This is just a quick guide, and it’s important to remember that your hairstyle can also make a big impact on your face shape, but hopefully, this will help you better match your earrings to your face.
