Tombstone

Getting There

The Dempster Highway is unlike anything else - a 737km long all-weather gravel road, passing right through Tombstone Territorial Park. The park is situated 1.5 hours from Dawson City, 7 hours from Whitehorse and 12 hours from Inuvik, NWT. It's a fully remote park without food, gas, phone or Wi-Fi service. . There is a cardlock gas station at the Dempster turnoff, and the next service station isn’t until Eagle Plains, 365km north on the Dempster, so be sure to fuel up before your journey if you are planning on heading toward the Arctic Circle or the NWT.

I would also recommend if you are in Dawson City the night before you hike in to stop by the Northwest Territories Visitors Center - not only do they have the most up to date information regarding the Dempster highway, but they also know exactly where and when highway construction is taking place. Also, if you have any intention on driving to the arctic circle (or into the NWT) they will have all of the information on that. This summer the Yukon-NWT border was closed so this was not possible. If you are not in Dawson you can find the current Dempster Highway road conditions at Yukon 511.
