The Connection Types of pipe flange
There are different types of pipe flanges used in the piping systems depending upon the fluid, PT rating, material of construction, connecting equipment etc. The flange-end connection defines the way in which it is attached to the pipe.Welding and threading are the main connection types of flanges used in pipe projects.
Welded flanges
This flange will be welded to a pipe or fitting with a single full penetration and welded flanges are the mostly used in piping project.Below you will find a short description and definition of each type, completed with an detailed image.
1.Weld Neck Flanges
Weld neck flange are most widely used flanges in welding flanges. It gives the highest level of joint integrity due to Butt-welded with a pipe. These types of flanges are used in high pressure and temperature application. Weld neck flanges are Bulky & costly with respect to other types of flange.
2.Slip-on flanges
Slip-on flanges are preferred to weld-neck flanges by many users because of their initial low cost and ease of installation. Their calculated strength under internal pressure is about two-thirds of that of weld-neck flanges. They are typically used on low-pressure, low-hazard services such as fire water, cooling water, and other services. The pipe is ‘‘double-welded’’ to both the hub and the bore of the flange.
3.Socket-Weld Flanges
Socket-Weld Flanges has a female socket in which pipe is fitted. Fillet welding is done from outside on the pipe. Generally, it is used in small bore piping and only suitable for low pressure and temperature application.
4.Lap-Joint Flange
This type of flanges joint is typically found on high alloy pipe work. It is composed of a hub, or ‘stub end’ welded to the pipe and a backing flange, or lapped flange, which is used to bolt the joint together. An alloy hub with a galvanized steel backing flange is cheaper than a complete alloy flange.
Threaded Flange
Threaded Flanges are used for special circumstances with their main advantage being that they can be attached to the pipe without welding.Threaded flange is most commonly used on low pressure applications and smaller pipes (up to 4" nominal).Sometimes a seal weld is also used in conjunction with the threaded connection.
LINKUN offers wide variety of pipe flanges in carbon steel, stainless steel and nickel alloy. We can also provide special flanges such as long weld neck flange, special material request and high-yield pipe flanges.
